In 1985, The Color Purple became an American classic that tells the story of what Black women have suffered whether at the hands of misogynistic men or on the journey to self-discovery.

Director Blitz Bazawule’s version of The Color Purple is a genius updated visual that centers the magnificence of the first film while incorporating the wonder of its many other iterations. Many fans have been asking about the connection to the original version and EBONY had the chance to speak with members of the cast— Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Coleman Domingo, Corey Hawkins and Bazawule himself— to discuss the similarities and differences.

Be sure to see The Color Purple everywhere on December 25th!
