*Ides – “The 15th day of March, May, July, or October; or the 13th day of any other month in the ancient Roman calendar.” Let’s be specific. This story is about the Ides of October 2023.
On Sunday, October 15th, the message was about submission and obedience. The question is, have you totally submitted to the LORD God? If so, have you obeyed the Great Commission to share the message of the cross (good news) in your circle of influence? If not, wouldn’t this be a good time to do so?
As we view the world with all of its problems – corruption, destruction, deception – we can only come to the conclusion that mankind alone cannot solve them. It’s like a disintegrating dam wall where when you stop one leak, another springs forth.
Reading the news headlines today, we can’t process one tragedy before another comes up: The Ukraine war with Russia; Israel’s war with the terrorist group Hamas; the fire in Maui; major earthquakes in diverse places; floods; wildfires; hurricanes; tornadoes; hate crimes; mass shootings; a broken immigration system; you name it – we’ve got it! And while all this is going on we have an unprecedented lack of leadership and infighting in the political arenas. I once heard someone say, “Where there is no battle, soldiers in trenches will turn on each other.” Well, we have battles on many fronts, so why are some politicians playing in the sandbox like little children?
The Ides of October 2023 shines the spotlight on the nation of Israel, “the apple of God’s eye,” as it has (in a humanitarian effort) notified the Palestinians to evacuate the northern part of Gaza ahead of an imminent invasion to weed out Hamas operatives who surprisingly and inhumanely attacked Israel on October 7th killing 1300 people and injuring hundreds more.

With all this going on, doesn’t it seem like the world is coming to an end? Whether by natural causes or by some unforeseen event, we’re all going to leave this human skin we’re in one day, but the Bible says if we believe, receive, and confess the message of the cross, we shall inherit eternal life. Jesus died on the cross for our redemption and salvation and rose from the dead. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him” [John 14:6-7]. “Jesus is the door to heaven; faith is the key to unlock it.” Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Let us be about our Father’s business.
