Sha’Carri Richardson has always been one to stand out on the track and off with her hair, outfits, or nails.
On Sunday, June 12, Sha’Carri rocked a funky pink fishnet piece while she ran in the New York Grand Prix.

She explained her outfit inspiration in an interview with FLOTRACK as, “Me standing out, no matter my performance.” Sha’Carri added, “I am always expressing myself and showing people no matter how a company, people, the media may try to limit you, always stand in your truth, so I express that through what I wear.”
The track and field star is also known for wearing bright, vibrant color hairstyles and Sunday Sha’Carri did not stray away from that. She had a long, blond style in and joked, “My hair color expresses whatever I feel like it expresses.”
The Texas native ran both the women’s 100 meters and 200 meters; she came in second place in the 100 in a season-best for her of 10.85 seconds — just behind winner Aleia Hobbs’ 10.83 – and first in the 200 in 22.38.
Although Sha’Carri didn’t take home both wins, she was still proud of herself. When asked how she felt like she did, Sha’Carri said, “I did phenomenal.” She continued, “This is my third 100 of the season, I feel fantastic.”
She also credited her agent in the interview and said, “He understands that it’s not just about pleasing the people, it’s about putting my mental health first.”
As her fans chanted her name in the background she proceeded to say, “It’s not just about getting on the track and running fast.”
The 22-year-old’s journey has not been an easy one. Just last year in June she was suspended from running in the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana — which she said she’d used to cope with her mother’s death.
The sprinter also wasn’t asked to join the USA Track and Field team in Tokyo for races that were run after her 30-day suspension was over, which left her unable to race for two months. When she did come back, she underperformed in several races and even withdrew from another at the Prefontaine Classic. Sha’Carri was also slammed by some for defending herself in a tweet back in January.
However, Sha’Carri didn’t let that stop her. She persevered through and is on her way back to the top.
