Snoop Dogg’s love of football and mentorship of young people come together in the new sports comedy The UnderDoggs.
In the film, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper plays Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a washed-up former NFL star sentenced to community service in his old neighborhood. He winds up coaching an outspoken team of kids in a youth football league. Two Js has to put his double-sized ego aside to handle these mouthy youths and their protective parents, but through it all, he rediscovers his passion for the game and the kids he’s grown to love.
Speaking with EBONY, Snoop Dogg discusses the Snoop Youth Football League, the non-profit he started in 2005 to support underserved kids in sports, which inspired the film. Co-star Tika Sumpter, who plays an old flame named Cherise, explains why all kids deserve their chance to shine on the field.
The UnderDoggs premieres Friday, January 26, 2024, on Prime Video.
