The World Stage Presents Bobby West Trio – Los Angeles Sentinel

Jazz lovers should plan to visit The World Stage on Friday, Jan. 10, at 8:30 p.m., to enjoy the Bobby West Trio, which includes Roy McCurdy and Kevin O-Neal.

The famed pianist will appear in a rare U.S. performance at 1234 Degnan Blvd., in the Leimert Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.  Tickets are $20 at the door on a first come basis.

A native of Louisiana, the world-renowned musician spent his formative year in South L.A. and was mentored by the legendary Horace Tapscott. An acknowledged child prodigy, West was playing Mozart on the piano by the age of 8.  After graduating from Grambling State University, West became internationally known, playing in throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

He latest album, “Big Tripping,” was released last year and reached the Top 20 on the jazz charts and Top 10 on the roots charts.
