*Thessalonica Allen, a 36-year-old Indiana mother who shot dead her husband, Randy Allen, and made her children help move his dismembered body parts away from the house, will serve over 60 years in prison. The shooting took place in July 2021.

In court, Thessalonica had defended her actions, claiming that she panicked and did not know what to do after she had shot him. After murdering her husband, she used an axe to cut his legs off to easily and secretly move his body away from the house.

La Porte County Circuit Court Judge Thomas J. on Friday (29 Sept.) sentenced the mother to 63 years, according to Law&Crime. In July, the court found her guilty on all counts after the jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes. Her convictions included murder, abuse of a corpse, and altering a crime scene, plus two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and two counts of neglect of a dependent.

Thessalonica and her husband Allen lived together with her four children. The couple had an argument in July 2021 after she took to social media to post what implied she was having her eyes on another man. Her husband Allen told her he would leave her if that’s what she was up to. But Thessalonica told him that would not be possible. She then withdrew a gun and shot him in the arm. Unfortunately, the bullet ricocheted toward his rib cage and landed in his spinal cord, and he bled to death.

But it was not like she didn’t mean to kill him. Court papers seen by Law&Crime quoted Judge Alevizos saying the evidence proved that the “matter was premeditated, both prior and post event,” and that Thessalonica showed “lack of remorse.”

On hearing the shooting, two of Thessalonica’s kids aged under 16 ran into the bedroom and watched their stepfather bleed to death on the floor. Thessalonica ordered them not to call 911. She then made her children assist her in cleaning up the crime scene and dragging the corpse outside into the car. However, they could not move the corpse out because it was too heavy.

Thessalonica then devised a plan: she bought an ax the following day and chopped the legs of the corpse. She then made her children stuff the dismembered corpse into a tote bag.

Interestingly, the weight was still too heavy for Thessalonica and her kids to move out into the car. The plan was to drive to a South Bend location and set the body on fire.

According to Law&Crime, one of Allen’s exes — the father of one of her children — got wind of what had happened and reported to the police. Perhaps the ex reasoned within himself that he might one day be next on the chopping board if he kept quiet. Thessalonica was at last found in the parking lot of an Ace Hardware store in La Porte, Indiana.

On being confronted by the police, she began to explain thus: “You don’t understand, he beats me.”

Thessalonica Allen then confessed to murdering her husband but claimed she shot him after he choked her.

“She then admitted she had to cut Randy’s legs off because she wasn’t able to fit him inside the tote,” read the police affidavit. “She stated she panicked and did not know what to do after she had shot him. She stated she used an ax to cut his legs off.”

The dismembered corpse was discovered inside the children’s closets stuffed in the tote bag.
