Commercial real estate business owner and broker Dustin Sutton is creating a technology to benefit golfers.

Sutton’s vision is to create augmented reality (AR) — enhanced smart glasses — designed and tailored for golfers through his company, RangEZ, Inc.

According to the San Diego Business Journal, Sutton said the company, which is less than a year old, aims to launch its first product by the end of 2024.

“Over the past seven months, this journey has transformed from a mere idea into a tangible pursuit,” he said.

RangEZ Smart Glasses

RangEZ smart glasses will offer several benefits, including real-time, hands-free access to vital course data, insights, and analytics, enhanced gameplay strategy, and seamless integration with the user’s experience.

The inspiration came from Sutton golfing with friends and colleagues in Oceanside, CA.

They were all using different tactics to gauge distances. However, they were all wearing sunglasses.

This sparked Sutton’s idea to research whether a pair of golf sunglasses on the market could supply the data on the lenses’ distances.

Through research and collaboration with professionals, including law firm Buchalter, nonprofit San Diego Sport Innovators, and JB Morch, director of US Operations for outer space design, Suton created a product design.

He also secured a provisional patent and established a C corporation.

“Our mission is to revolutionize the golfing experience by integrating cutting-edge technology directly into the player’s field of view,” Sutton said.

“By merging technology and sport, we aim to create a more immersive and informed golfing experience.”

The Future Plans

Sutton is optimistic about the road ahead and hopes RangEZ can use the smart glasses to reach nearly 80 million golf fans and professionals.

“We’re positioned to expand our funding sources as we more into more substantial development and market preparation phases,” he explained.

“We are anticipating launching a pre-seed funding round in early 2024 to accelerate our development, finalize our product prototype, and begin go-to-market strategies.”
