We reported previously that Ike Jr., 64, was arrested in May and charged with crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence. According to People, he was jailed about two weeks before his famous mother died at age 83 on May 24.

Ike Jr. was driving a white 2013 Ford Fusion when he was stopped by police because the headlight or taillight was out. Officers apparently noticed him attempting to consume narcotics during the traffic stop and they ultimately seized 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and .7 grams of methamphetamine. Ike Jr.’s female passenger, Jessica Salinas-Esquivel, was also charged with possession of methamphetamines.

“He tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him,” said Capt. Q.T. Arendell of the Alvin Police Dept, People reports.

According to RadarOnline.com, Ike Jr. was released from police custody on July 24 after spending 79 days behind bars. The tampering of evidence charge was dropped, the outlet reports.

Tina Turner died in May after battling a “long illness.” Her representatives confirmed to DailyMail.com that she died of natural causes.

As TMZ reported, the legendary singer opened up about her struggles with hypertension, high blood pressure, and kidney issues weeks before her passing.

In Tina’s March 9 Instagram post for International World Kidney Day, she wrote … “My kidneys are victims of my not realizing that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine. I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication. For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion.”

On May 24, her team confirmed she passed away at her home in Switzerland. The news of Turner’s death was shared on her Instagram account.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” the statement read. “Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
