Marvel’s Tom Holland says keeping Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU under wraps was ‘tough’ and admits he avoided the press.
Fans of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe received the shock of a lifetime this summer when Robert Downey Jr announced he would return to the franchise. Unfortunately for fans of his Ironman character, he will play the villain this time. RDJ will suit up as the iconic villain Victor Von Doom. Keeping this a secret wasn’t easy for Marvel, but somehow they pulled it off. However, the biggest threat to the MCU is Tom Holland who has his process to avoid spilling the tea.
According to Variety, Holland revealed he felt pressure to keep his mouth closed, and he avoided doing press to keep the secret.
“I’ve been speaking to [Robert Downey Jr.] a lot, especially about him making his [Marvel] return, which is super exciting,” Holland said on the “Rich Roll” podcast. “That was a tough secret to sit on because I have a reputation for ruining things and I strategically have done no press.”
Holland is notorious for spoiling various Marvel plot points to the point it became part of the marketing for Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man films. Downey’s official return will reportedly happen in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday which hasn’t begun filming yet. Once Holland receives the script and filming begins we can almost bet money Tom will spoil some aspect of the film.
