Authorities in New York said an 84-year-old woman, who was struck by a stray bullet while sitting in her walker, was not the shooter’s intended target. Per the New York Post, the Monday shooting happened on a Brooklyn street.

The victim, identified as Althea Lawson, was struck by a stray bullet while she was sitting on a sidewalk. The bullet is said to have struck her left arm. The octogenarian was eventually taken to the hospital for treatment, and authorities said she was expected to survive.

In an interview with the news outlet, Lawson, who is also a cancer survivor, said she was about to return home after conversing with friends when shots rang out. “By the time they crossed the street to go and get their car and I’m about to go back to my apartment, I heard a heap of bow, bow, bow,” she said from her hospital bed.

“I didn’t move. I saw the people running but I didn’t realize I got shot. I did not feel it,” she added. “I looked down on my hand and I saw the blood running from my hand, my hand was full of blood.”

The 84-year-old also said it was a “miracle” that she survived. “I don’t have enough tongue to tell God thanks I’m still here today,” she said. “Thank God it never hit me in my head!”
