According to prosecutors, he may have tipped off the killers about Rock’s whereabouts and potentially supplied the weapon used in the murder. Trone was arrested shortly after the murder, along with his 17-year-old son, who is believed to have pulled the trigger, and his wife, Shauntel Trone, who was charged as an accessory after the fact.
The latest addition to the list of suspects is Wynisha Evans, who has been charged with being an accessory after the fact. Prosecutors allege that she assisted Trone in evading capture by driving him from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
Both Jones and Evans have pleaded not guilty to their charges, joining Freddie and Shauntel Trone in asserting their innocence. The evidence against them includes surveillance footage showing Freddie wearing all black clothing and gloves at 2:28 a.m., manipulating something in his hands, and activating the car tail lights before getting into the vehicle.
A caller reported the car being on fire two blocks away from the Trones’ home at 2:45 a.m., and authorities discovered a melted gas canister at the scene.
Freddie had burns on his forearm and legs, which were allegedly the result of an arson attempt. Investigators traced dealer plates found on the vehicle to a used car lot that the Trones had visited the same day as the murder, further raising suspicions.
