Crystal Waters’ hit song “100% Pure Love” is getting a reboot. The pioneering dance-pop legend has partnered with Jersey Club Queen UNIIQU3 for the official remix of the single, out July 7. It’s in celebration of the upcoming 30th anniversary of the track’s release, which first dropped in April 1994.
UNIIQU3 (a.k.a. Cherise Gary), a DJ and producer who has been on the scene for more than a decade, has distilled all of the original track’s elements that made it a ’90s dance floor anthem while adding her Jersey Club twist. “This is an excellent mix! It’s so refreshing to hear a new take on the track,” Waters declares to EBONY. “I’m excited for the release!” The collaboration highlights the connection and impact the two New Jersey natives share as Black women on the dance music scene.
The “100% Pure Love” remix follows UNIIQU3’s single, “Jersey Club Movie,” a track that samples a classic Ashanti song and comes with a music video that takes inspiration from iconic 1990s sitcoms like Sister, Sister and Family Matters.
As the lead song on Waters’s second studio album, Storyteller, “100% Pure Love” was destined to become a classic. It reached the Top 20 charts in several countries. Its music video was nominated for “Best Dance Video” at the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards and in 1995, it was awarded the prize for Top ASCAP Dance Song.
