*During the Los Angeles premiere, Viola Davis spoke about how she enjoyed playing the villainous character Dr. Volumnia Gaul in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.” The Oscar winner said to The Hollywood Reporter, “Just seeing how many times you can make someone squirm — like Tom Blyth, oh man it was a joy because he was very receptive to it, so I was just so happy about poking him.” She continued: “Even in the scene when I had to inject him and give him stitches, I think, loved it.” Viola also pointed out one of the main reasons she took the role was to impress her 13-year-old daughter, Genesis. ‘Dem babies are a tough crowd, no doubt!

Seven-time Grammy-nominated artist Victoria Monét performed Roundhouse, London, on November 12, 2023, and Janet Jackson came out to support. Ms. Jackson, if you’re nasty, captured a snippet of V‘s performance and posted it on her IG story with the caption, “Victoria, I’m so happy for you! Congratulations on all your success. May God continue to bless you and hold you close,” followed by a red heart emoji.

Chris Brown is really that dude. In October 2022, he posted a video clip of then-17-year-old Naledi Aphiwe singing on his Instagram stories, praising her for her “incredible” voice. Instantly, the young South African student became a trending topic on social media. One year later, Chris decided to bless her again by sampling her voice for his single “Shooter” on his 11th studio album 11:11, gifted her $3,000 (R56,207) to jump-start her career, and gave her writing credits, according to Times Live. “Chris Brown did what I would have never done. There are many people who are talented outside and he chose a child from a small city like mine. I appreciate him so much. People who didn’t know anything about Naledi Aphiwe today know her. It has changed my home situation. Everything is good now,” she told TshisaLIVE. “First I want to buy a new phone so I can carry on making content and push my music. I also want to go to my mom’s grave to fix it for thanksgiving since we weren’t able to do things the way we wanted when we buried her last year.” Naledi credits her teacher for filming her. Though she is doing well in school, the young singer aspires to work with artists such as Lwandukulu, Black Diamond, Cici, Qabe Twins, Sbahle, and others. We love this story!

Issa Rae hit ’em with the shoulders for her new spread in Marie Claire magazine to speak about her Viarae Wines and her show “Rap Sh!t” securing a second season. “While I haven’t won every battle, I try to fight as much as possible to get people those opportunities that I know I would want,” says Issa 🍾.
