Mauricio Garcia (mug-headshot)

*One of my Facebook friends posted a message a few days ago warning about a possible mass shooting in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. According to the post, the mass shooting was to occur over the weekend in the downtown area of Ft. Worth. I’m not sure how my FB friend learned about the possible shooting, but I was glad he shared the information in an effort to protect others.

It turns out the Ft. Worth shooting suspect my FB friend posted about was arrested before he was able to carry out his plans. The mall shooting in Allen, Texas was another planned massacre. So there were at least two shootings planned this weekend in the DFW metroplex.

Eight people are confirmed dead so far after being shot and killed Saturday at a mall in Allen. At least a half dozen more were wounded. These are everyday people who thought they would make a simple trip to the mall and move on with their lives.

A video shows suspected gunman Mauricio Garcia as he stepped out of his vehicle in the mall parking lot and started shooting at people walking to and from their vehicles. A photo of Garcia lying dead on the ground confirms had he not been stopped, plenty of other people would have been maimed or murdered. He had plenty more firepower attached to his tactical uniform.

Why do so many people relish in bringing harm to others who have nothing to do with what that person might be going through or suffering from? And how do we keep ourselves, our children, and our loved ones focused on abundant living when there is so much death and destruction around us?

I don’t have all the answers, but preparing for the worst while hoping for the best is a start.

Create plans of action for your family in case there’s an active shooter, in case of a national emergency, in case you simply get separated from each other in a public place.

Then build alliances with other like-minded people who you can count on and they can count on you. Don’t expect to defeat the enemy by yourself. They are getting organized. You should too.
